In this post, you’ll find fun, virtual end of year activities ideal for distance learning. As this unusual school year comes to a close, there are lots of fun, virtual ways you can celebrate your students-distance learning style! I’ve gathered lots of ways to enjoy the end of the year with digital last week of school activities you can easily do with your students online.
Virtual End of Year Activities to Celebrate Your Students
Have a Virtual Class Party
Do a hangout or a Zoom call and celebrate as a class. Find games on Pinterest you can play on a chat, or make a simple slideshow of pictures from the year. Send out a scavenger hunt list ahead of time, or have students dress as their favorite book character.
Have students decorate their background in a party theme and you decorate yours too! There are lots of Zoom backgrounds popping up online, and students can find one they like.
Let students take turns teaching something they love, or do an online show and tell.
Make Digital Memory Books
During the last days of school, one of my favorite things to do with my class is to let them talk about their favorite memories from the year. Making end of the year memory books each year is always a highlight. This year, have your students make a digital memory book to remember their school year in a unique way. Similar to a digital scrapbook, digital memory books on Google Slides can also be printed.
It’s super easy for students to type on the slides and they can even add photos.

Digital Class Awards
It will look a little different, but you CAN still celebrate your students with a virtual end of the year award ceremony. Did you know you can turn your regular editable awards into picture? then you can send them to families via email or whatever platform you are using that allows you to upload pictures.
To make your awards, simply insert text boxes right on the slides, then type in your info. Once you have customized all of your awards, save the Power Point file as pictures by following these steps: Click File > Save as > jpg. > All Slides. This will save all of your slides as images in a folder. You can then email or share the images with your students on the platform you are using.
Of course, you can always print out the awards and mail them to students too.
The steps are similar for awards on Google Slides. Type your students name, your name and date in the text boxes, then share the Slide with your student.
In the classroom, I do a big superhero themed send-off for my students, but a virtual ceremony is just as meaningful to them.
Virtual Award Ceremony
One of my favorite end of the year activities is to do an award ceremony. Why not do a virtual superhero send off on Zoom? Have a Zoom meeting with a superhero theme and ask your students to dress up as their favorite superhero. They can even wear capes. This can be as simple as a bath towel pinned to their shirt! Set up a backdrop to film yourself in front of and present the awards to each students.
Download this applause soundtrack from YouTube and play it after awarding each child. Send a picture of a Hollywood awards ceremony stage to your class so they can even change their Zoom background!

Do End of the Year Spirit Days
What’s the last week of school without theme days? theme days are always a favorite end of the year activity and easy to do during distance learning. Make a simple last week of school schedule with a theme for each day and send it home to students. Some fun ideas are: book character day, crazy hair day, superhero day, decades day, or movie theme day. Hawaiian day is always a fun one, and so are backwards day, pajama day, and western day.
Have a Virtual Art Show
This is such an easy way to add memorable fun to your last days together! Have your students send you a picture of them holding a piece of artwork they have made. Insert the photos into a slideshow to share with your students and present during the last week of school. You could even turn it into a talent show or a pet show!
Take an End of the Year Virtual Field Trip
If your field trips this quarter were suddenly canceled, don’t miss out, take a virtual trip instead. There are many online zoo and aquarium webcams, museum tours, and virtual landmark visits you can take with your students. Write Letters to Next Year’s Class

Take a Break from Devices
If your students have been learning online for weeks, they may need a break from devices! Prevent summer slide by sending home fun summer learning activities that don’t need devices! These at-home learning menus and parent letter offer students six weeks of activities in all subject areas, in versions for first, second, and third grade. Simple, no prep activities using a few items found around the house. With the included weekly schedule, students even have a movie day on Fridays, with educational follow up activities to use with any movie. No devices needed!
