As schools continue to close across the country, I know many will be scrambling to set up ways for their students to continue their learning at home. I’ve gathered a huge list of (now over 120) free educational websites for learning at home with resources and online activities you can easily assign to your students to do remotely. These websites are either always free or offer a free 30-day trial which is ideal for temporary distance learning.
Free Educational Websites for Learning at Home
The impact of COVID-19 on education has been life altering for students, teachers, and parents. Putting technology in place for students to learn from home has been a challenge for everyone. I want to address how we can accommodate students who don’t have access to devices or internet at home. In an effort to do that, I have put together FREE At-Home Learning Menus to send home with your students or email to parents. The menus include activities for all subject areas and are ideal for grades 1-3. The download also includes a parent letter. These are all screen-free activities that can be used to supplement your online teaching or sent home at the end of the year for summer review.
UPDATE: The learning menus now include 6 weeks of learning with 7 menus. Click the grade level you need.
As you plan for distance learning, below is a list of FREE educational websites, resources, and online teaching and learning tools to use with your students for all subject areas.

Linda, I’m just now coming across your page. I wish I had found your site months ago. This is all amazing!!! Thank you!!!! Thank you!!!
You’re so welcome Wynette! I’m glad you found ideas you can use!
Sonya, I’ve added a section with lots of links to free virtual field trips.
This is amazing, thank you! Right now Audible through Amazon is offering free books online as well.
Thank you, Jill! I’ll add Audible to the list.
Thank you for sharing such fantastic suggestions for continuing our children’s education
You are so very welcome, Patricia!
Do you know of any sites that offer virtual field trips for free?
Sonja, I’m not aware of any free sites, but I’d love to add any to this list if you find them!
Thank you so much for this wonderful resource.
You’re so welcome Theresa! Stay well!
Students can use their Epic subscription through their school! It is available weekdays until 4:00pm.
Thank you Sharon! They are also now offering free access for parents until June 2020.
Thanks so much! You have found a way of being of service to others during this time!
You are so welcome Kathy! Hang in there and stay well!
Thank you so much!
You’re welcome Cyndi!
As far as I can tell, Epic is not free for home use. They can get a free 30 day trial, but it can only be accessed after they enter credit card information. I was hoping to use that one, because I use it in my classroom all the time and love it.
Thank you for pointing that out Julie! I’ll remove that one from the list.
Epic is now offering free access until June. You just have to have a teacher account.
Thank you Melissa! I put Epic back on the list.
You can sign up for Epic as a teacher and then add your class for free. Once you have a kid register with your class code, it’s free to them.
Thank you Kristen, that is good to know! I’ve added Epic back to the list of free websites.
Have you ever had a kid try using their school account at home? Just curious why it wouldn’t work! I’m bummed Epic hasn’t offered a longer free trial considering the current state of our nation…
I haven’t Julie, but Epic is now offering free subscriptions until June 2020.
Epic! is always free for kids at home if the teacher makes the classroom and gives the parents the class code. The only thing is Epic! is only free to use at home during “school hours” so it is not available for free use in the late evenings around bedtime.
Thank you Lorena!
