Many schools now require learning standards and objectives to be posted where both students and staff can easily see them. While this may start as a requirement, focus walls can actually become a powerful tool for keeping lessons organized and students on track throughout the week. To help you get started, I’m sharing free focus wall posters along with simple, realistic ways to use them in your classroom.

A focus wall is a dedicated space in the classroom that clearly displays the learning objectives, standards, spelling words, weekly strategies, and/or key vocabulary, and phonics focus for the current lesson or unit. It helps students understand what they are learning, why it matters, and what success looks like. When used consistently, a focus wall keeps both teaching and learning aligned and purposeful.
I typically transform a bulletin board into my focus wall, where I can add a background, border, and then add the posters. It doesn’t have to be fancy to be effective!

How Can I Use These Focus Wall Posters?
Option 1: Print, laminate, write
After downloading your free focus wall posters, simply save them as a PDF, print, laminate, and hang them on your wall. Each week, you can update the objectives and standards as needed.
I like using Mr. Sketch markers because they last all week and are water-based, so they are easy to erase with a wet wipe.
This is my go-to setup since it cuts down on printer trips and allows me to add or adjust information throughout the week. The included decorative elements and title letters make it so easy to create a bright and colorful focus wall that give your students a reference all week (and impresses your admin👍).
Option 2: Add a Text Box and Edit
If your handwriting scares you, or you want to prep for many upcoming weeks, you can choose option two! After downloading the posters, simply add a text box, type in your details, save as a PDF, and print! . To save on color ink, you can resize and crop the file to print just the white section and tape it onto your focus wall each week.
This option allows you to use your pacing guides and prep and print for the entire year for easy grab-and-go changes. Make them once and use them every year!
