Context Clues Activities for 2nd Grade

Teaching grammar is easy and fun with these no-prep context clues activities! This 2nd grade grammar resource includes an entire week of context clues minilessons on PowerPoint, worksheets, task cards, reading passage and assessment for students to learn the five types of context clues and how to use them to determine the meaning of new vocabulary words. This unit is designed for second grade but can be used with higher ability first grade students or in third grade for review or test prep.

This unit includes daily practice in a variety of formats to easily teach students how to use context clues when reading unknown words.

Short on time to teach grammar? This simple 5-day routine allows you to teach, practice or assess your students in 15 minutes or less each day. The daily routine includes whole group practice as well as fun partner activities.

The easy to grade context clues worksheet is ideal for reinforcement, morning work, or homework. An engaging reading passage gives students the opportunity to use what they are learning to determine the meaning of target vocabulary words in the passage. Students apply their learning in a writing activity with three different formats for easy differentiation. On Friday students are assessed with a short, easy to grade assessment.
