The first day of school can bring about all kinds of emotions for students (and teachers, too!). Starting off the school year with a great read aloud book is an amazing way to bring students together, welcome them to the classroom, and help them feel a sense of community with their new classmates. Read alouds are also an excellent jumping point for conversations about those first day jitters.

You’re Finally Here!

You’re Finally Here! is one of my favorite first day of school books! The bunny in the story has been waiting and waiting for his readers to finally arrive, and he is so excited that they are here! But it has been hard waiting! This silly, engaging, and energetic story is perfect for enthusiastically welcoming new students to your classroom.
I enjoy reading this story so much, I created a complete 5-day unit of You’re Finally Here Back to School Activities to go along with the book! This unit is filled with fresh ideas for getting to know you, icebreakers, partner games, and an adorable class-made anchor chart. It also includes goal setting activities, a writing craft, and a booklet students make to explain what took them so long to get to your classroom. These activities work for any elementary grade level!
