With Valentine’s Day behind us I’m in full planning mode for March and Literacy Week.   I thought I’d share some of our fun from last year in case you’re like me and still racking your brain for a Read Across America Week idea! Honestly, my little friends loved this so much I may do it again this year…. And yes, we are HUMAN CANDLES! Oh, the squeals of joy!!
Literacy Week Door Idea
I snapped a picture of each of my kiddos wearing a hat that I made  with a sentence strip and tissue paper twisted into a flame shape.I had to laugh at myself when it was all said and done because it would have been SO much easier to just glue a little yellow flame on their heads!
After a very funny discussion about all of the things Dr. Seuss  has given us as readers as well as our fondest first memories of reading his books, we baked him a birthday cupcake!

Next, we used our birthday cupcakes to decorate our hallway and wrote about a gift we’d like to give in return. A lot of my students wrote that they’d like to write a book for him like he has done for them.
The responses were priceless about what they have gained from Dr. Seuss books!
