Spruce Up Your Computer Lab with Chalkboard Decor

August 14 By Linda Kamp 59 Comments

Now that my classroom is in full swing and beginning to to run smoothly, we’ll soon be spending some time in our computer lab. Our lab definitely needed some sprucing up so I thought I’d share a few computer lab decor tips I used so you can take yours from drab to FAB! Like most teachers, I like to spend my time at school in a room that makes me happy.  Our drab little lab needed some TLC to brighten it up and add some pizzazz!

Brighten Up Your Lab With Chalkboard Decor

I wanted to tie in all the black monitors and chairs in our lab so a chalkboard theme seemed just the thing!

To make it bright and beautiful I used Colorful Chalkboard letters and border trim by Carson Dellosa.

I added this bright, bold board to highlight our lab rules posters with the two-sided border and matching letters.

Computer lab bulletin board
The paper plate keys really make it pop! There is a bit of an optical illusion when taking pictures of the plates. The letters are actually glued to the backs of the plate even though it looks like they are glued to the fronts.

Make It Cozy With Curtains

Add a cozy feel with butcher paper curtains.  Measure across the top of the window to get the width.

Hang a 15″ long piece of butcher paper by whatever length your width, around the top of the window. I used rolled packing tape to adhere a piece of border to give it some pizzazz!

Using decent packing tape will keep these up all year. I made similar curtains for my classroom two years ago and they still look as nice as when I put them up.

Add Cuteness With Containers

Find a few bright containers to hold pencils and scrap paper.

I love the mix of patterns with the primary colors and brights!

WONDERFUL! I am curious…where did you get the signs for your lab rules? I looked on the Carson-Dellosa site and they don't have the backgrounds you have. Did you get them somewhere else or did you make those yourself? They are really nice!
